DIY Flocked Artificial Christmas Tree
You have your old regular artificial tree and wondered how you could turn it into a flocked artificial Christmas tree. We will help create a show stopper for the festive season ahead, turning that old tree into something new. Your tree will look dusted with snow to look like it came out of a magical winter forest.
What You Need to Make a Flocked Christmas Tree
Great, it is time to gather the supplies you will need to make a flocked tree. You will need:
- Your old artificial tree
- Some Santa Snow Spray to create the faux snow
- Some Trimaco X Paper with Trimaco Easy Mask KleenEdge PerfectEdge tap for surface protection
- Cling cover sheeting’s to protect furniture
- Your protective wear like old clothing
- Some rags as you will make a mess and need to wipe things down
Prep Your Space
While the faux snow spray says it will not create an overspray, we still recommend being safe as it could. For example, place a drop cloth or use surface protection paper to prevent mess on your floors. For added caution, throw some masking film over your furniture and put on your overalls.
Clean the Trees Branches
If you have an old tree and want to create a flocked artificial Christmas tree, it helps to clean all the branches when taken out of storage. You can dust the branches with a wet microfiber cloth to remove the dust particles.
Time to Flock Your Tree
Once you set up your tree, start fluffing it out to give it a complete yet natural look. Then, slowly spray the tree from the bottom for a full snow effect. The best is to spray at a downward angle. Then top off the edges with more spray. Do this by making a way around your tree up in a spiral pattern.
Wipe The Stand Down and Leave Your Tree to Dry
Next, take a damp cloth to wipe down the spray on the metal stand to remove the fake snow. Then leave your flocked artificial Christmas tree to stand for three hours to dry. Then you can move your tree into its rightful place to decorate.
Some Helpful Tips
It is important to spray your artificial tree close to where you plan to place it. The reason is that the fake snow can flake off, and best to pour where the tree will stand for the season. Even if you have a pre-lit tree, you need not worry, as the spray creates a dull coating that fits in with the vibe.
No problem when the festivities are over, and you need to store your flocked artificial Christmas tree. The spray only lasts for four weeks and starts to fall off. You can place it back in your storage bag to re-flock the following year.
